چکیده

2 Summary 20 We present a case study of the ranking and weighting of ground-motion prediction equations (GMPE) 21 for seismic hazard assessment of Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGSs). The study region is Cooper 22 Basin (Australia), where a hot-fractured-rock project was established in 2002. We test the applicability 23 of 36 GMPEs based on stochastic simulations previously proposed for use at EGSs. Each GMPE has a 24 set of corresponding model parameters describing stress drop, regional and local (near-surface) 25 attenuation. To select suitable GMPEs for Cooper Basin from the full set we applied two methods. In 26 the first, seismograms recorded on the local monitoring network were spectrally analysed to determine 27 characteristic stress and attenuation parameters. In a second approach, residual analysis using the log-28 likelihood (LLH) method was used to directly compare recorded and predicted short-period response 29 spectral accelerations. The resulting ranking was consistent with the models selected based on spectral 30 analysis, with the advantage that a transparent weighting approach was available using the LLH 31 method. Region-specific estimates of variability were computed, with significantly lower values 32 observed compared to previous studies of small earthquakes. This was consistent with the limited 33 range of stress-drops and attenuation observed from the spectral analysis.

Discriminating Characteristics of Tectonic and Human‐Induced Seismicity

We analyze statistical features of background and clustered subpopulations of earthquakes in different regions in an effort to distinguish between human-induced and natural seismicity. Analysis of end-member areas known to be dominated by humaninduced earthquakes (The Geyser geothermal field in northern California and TauTona gold mine in South Africa) and regular tectonic activity (the San Jac...

Seismicity of Batubesi Dam at Sorowako Region Based on Earthquake Data and Microtremor Measurement

Batubesi Dam which is located in Sorowako region in the middle part of Sulawesi island had been designed with seismic coefficient about 0.20g. The region constitutes an active earthquake zone with the recurrence frequency and magnitude of the earthquake are relatively high. The region is located on and active fault zone due to lateral fault movement (strike-slip) of Matano fault, Palukoro fault...

Numerical analysis of ground motion in a South African mine using SPECFEM3D

Intensive seismicity was often observed in the front of tabular stopes in South African gold mines. The seismicity was usually caused by high stress concentration due to excavation, and some of the seismic events were fault rupture events. This study focuses on numerical modelling of seismic wave propagation resulted from a moment magnitude Mw = 1.4 seismic even...

پراکندگی لرزه‌خیزی در ایران

The Iranian plateau formed by the active tectonics of the Alpine-Himalayan belt, is situated between the Eurasian and Arabian plates. The plateau is considered as one of the most seismically active regions in the world and is faced with different earthquakes each year. Active tectonic conditions, different faults and seismic sources and a large population in earthquake-prone areas mak...

Predicting ground shaking intensities using DYFI data and estimating event terms to identify induced earthquakes

There has been a significant increase in earthquakes in Central and Eastern US (CEUS) in recent years. This increase in seismicity has been associated with human activities like wastewater injection, and is referred to as induced seismicity. One of the components for hazard and risk calculation from induced seismicity is the level of ground shaking expected from an earthquake at a site of inter...
